Carol Staudacher is a grief educator and consultant, and an author and researcher in the mental health field. Her first book on bereavement,"Beyond Grief, a Practical Guide for Recovering from the Death of a Loved One" (New Harbinger Publication, 1987, Barnes & Noble books, 2000) places special emphasis on the wide variety of grief responses experienced by a spouse, parent or child. It also explores the multiple challenges of surviving a loss as the result of an accident, suicide or murder. "Men and Grief" (New Harbinger Publication, 1991), her second book, was the first work in the field to look in depth at the unique patterns of male grief and to offer step by step support to the male survivor as well as to those who care for and about him. Staudacher's most recent book, "A Time To Grieve: Meditations for Healing After The Death of a Loved One" (HarperSanFrancisco, 1994) was chosen as a Book Club Selection by Rodale Publishing.
Staudacher has spoken to grief organizations and conferences throughout the U.S. and Canada. She has been a frequent guest on radio shows to discuss a wide range of topics including the differences between the grieving processes of men and women, the ongoing issues associated with childhood bereavement, and the survivor responses resulting from traumatic loss, such as airline disasters and the Oklahoma City bombing. Additionally, she has written and lectured on the creative process, including its effectiveness in promoting grief recovery.
She resides in Washington and California where she is also an editor and poet.
